Street thug still holds status in the world of hip-hop and it seems Fredro Starr wants to live that life still, even after leaving the hardcore crew Onyx. You can hear lots of thuggery with tracks like “Dyin’ 4 Rap”.
“What If” is an attempt at some intellectual questions but it’s not really all that interesting. “Perfect Bitch” is all about looks. It has nothing to do with brains or what’s inside, materialism at its highest form. This is why women always get dogged in hip-hop. This song brings Starr down in my book. It’s such a lame track.
Fredro Starr is all take. All glitter, no gold. He can write decent hooks. It’s just too bad that he’d rather waste his skills talking about nonsense than using it for something worthwhile. The album goes from good to worse. His bravado and bragging is annoying the more I hear it. “Who F#!k Betta” is just pathetic bullshit.
Starr starts “Big Shots” claiming he can’t escape the game, but then goes on to say as long as he can have it all, meaning cars and money, then he doesn’t want to leave it. I hope he knows when he dies he isn’t taking any of that with him. Firestarr is exactly what is wrong with hip-hop today: style over substance.
