Since his arrival in NYC in the 80’s, Hahn Rowe (AKA Somatic) has been involved in many facets of the city’s music scene by drawing upon his musical history as an electric violinist, guitarist, and programmer. Perhaps best known as a member of the 80’s pop experimentalists Hugo Largo, Hahn has also appeared as an instrumentalist on recordings by Ikue Mori, Swans, Foetus, Firewater, That Petrol Emotion, Michael Stipe, & KRS-1, and Moby.
Hahn has programmed, engineered, and produced for musicians such as Mimi Goese (Hugo Largo singer) and David Byrne. He has created muscial scores for film, including Susan Aikin’s Emmy award-winning documentary The Transformation.
As an active member in New York City’s growing electronic music and multimedia community, and drum ‘n’ bass enthusiast, he performs as part of the jungle/dub duo Circuit Bible (a force in the NYC underground electronic music scene that is being coined as illbient) and deejays hard dancefloor tunes as Somatic. Drawing upon his vast experiences in the wide array of musical settings, Somatic combines hard beat manipulation, analog textures, and melodic interplay to create a personal brand of future funk for for the next generation of breakbeat enthusiasts, emerging as one of the stateside’s most impressive Drum ‘n’ Bass producers.
