Somethin’ For The People is better known to industry insiders than to anyone else. They’ve written tracks for the likes of Brandy and En Vogue, and produced tracks for Will Smith’s Big Willie Style. They’ve released two full-length albums and are about to drop the third and possibly their best, Issues.
They gave us the hit, “My Love Is The Shhh”, in ’97, and now they’re back with track after red-hot track. It all starts with “Now U Wanna”. Diablo drops by to add some depth to “Where You At”, which amps from a loop of “I Shot The Sheriff”. “Last Call” is a party jam that never gets weary.
The beats they drop are the hottest and this time around everything matches. “Ooh Wee” is nonsense, but it’s got a great melody, which counts for a lot. Eric Benet offers a helping hand on the superb slow jam, “Act Like You Want It”. Possessing silky smooth hip-hop beats with amazing R&B undercurrents, Somethin’ For The People isn’t just a group title; it’s truth in advertising.
