The Soundtrack of our Lives – Behind The Music

The Soundtrack of our Lives
Artist: The Soundtrack of our Lives
Title: Behind The Music
Label: Republic
Rating: 9.5/10

Corporate Line: After having had an almost instant breakthrough in Sweden back in 1996 at the release of their debut album “Welcome to the Infant Freebase”, this band didn’t for some reason get the same immediate response abroad to its charming blend of pop and rock’n roll.

The Great:
“Sister Surround” – The glorious guitar intro brings shades of sun into your eyes while singer Ebbot Lundberg fills your ears with joy. So joyful I just might tear up. Speaking of tears…
“Someone Else’s Mind” – This must be a dream. Track three already and I’m still gushing and it isn’t pretty. It gets close to something Pink that brings us too…
“Mind The Gap” – Bow to the new kings. We’ve long died for someone to fill the gap of the long lost golden days of Pink Floyd. Screw Radiohead TSOOL are the crowned kings. Lundberg sings “Cause we are taking over” and I couldn’t be happier.
“Infra Riot” – What in the hell is wrong with me? I love this nonsense? Until the day I die! Oh, and welcome to the other side!
“Broken Imaginary Time” – “You’re such a light-weight after all”. It’s true, so sadly true, and it’s even hard to describe just how gorgeous this song truly is.
“Still Aging” – An absolute triumph in obscurity.
“Keep The Line Movin’” – Bloody good.
“In Your Veins” and “Into The Next Sun” – The only true ballads don’t let you down.

The Marginal:
“Independent Luxury” – Hard to call this marginal as it is quite good, but when you hear the other tracks you can understand.

The Bad:
That’s a laugh.

Frankly: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives is easily the best record you’ve heard since Radiohead’s “Ok Computer”, but Behind The Music might be better.
