“Sister 7 had a scant forty minutes to prove their mettle tonight. It took only one, just long enough for the snaky liquid groove of “This The Trip” to come to a boil over Pike’s ultra-confident delivery of the first chorus. “Trip on baby, come along,” she growled like a seductive Tina Turner peddling apples in the Garden of Eden, and from there on, it was a free fall.”, -Rolling Stone
That’s the Ticket!! Sister 7 has been hailed both nationally and internationally as one of the tightest and most accomplished touring bands to take command of a stage. Sister 7 formed one philosophy – to bring together a group of young and professionally seasoned musicians, dedicated to original songwriting and relentless touring.
Produced by Danny Kortchmar (Don Henly, Freedy Johnson, Spin Doctors, James Taylor), the album features 11 tracks of pure groove that kicks off with the title track. Fueled by Patrice’s sensuous growl – equal parts gravel and gravy – the song deals with free-spirited lust and the mind trip of being consumed by passion for another. Bottle Rocket sports an ethereal hip-hop trance with an R&B vocal, “and the chorus is real hard slamming rock, a fat sound,” adds Patrice. Know What You Mean, the current hit single also deals with the necessary evils of relationships. Patrice explains, “you know, when a friend is going through a tough time in a love relationship, what it’s like to be there for that friend.” Nobody’s Home is a wake up call to those who live life in a vacuum, being led like sheep to the slaughter (of personal freedom). Perfect, on the other hand is a change-up in tempo and feel, which musicians of this caliber find so natural. “It’s a real droning kind of tune,” says Patrice. “A lot of the album has cutting, wailing, rock vocals but this is ghostly and really different, really beautiful, yet dark as well.” the 11 slices of life that This The Trip are as uniquely different and compelling as the personalities of Sister 7 collectively. “This is a band of four very different people,” states Patrice. “It took us a lot of touring to gel and find our own sound.”
Sister 7 formed in the summer of 1991 from some of the most accomplished live musicians culled from the musical landscape of the Lonsestar State. By the time the band had enough original songs to play, they scored a residency gig playing weekly on the infamous 6th Street in the heart of Austin (of South by Southwest fame). A handful of fans soon gave way to packed houses and standing room only. As the buzz grew too loud to ignore, the band saved money from there sold out gigs and pulled up stakes to tour first regionally, then nationally. Setting themselves apart has always been a unique talent of Sister 7’s. Also to the band’s credit is that within seven years, Sister 7 has traveled over 500,000 miles in a van, released and marketed their previous albums independently, toured nationally and internationally, and played over 1000 live shows. “Prior to getting a record deal we did everything, paid for our albums, managed our fan club, website, touring – I mean everything,” states Patrice. Sister 7 has also been known as a consummate fan-friendly unity, who have gathered (by request only) and maintained a fan club list of over 20,000 and have had over 25,000 hits on their website (also band managed from the road) in 1997. Sister 7 was also chosen from thousands of bands to play the 1994 H.O.R.D.E. Festival in support of their previous live album Free Love And Nickel Beer. Most modern rock bands find it hard to boast these numbers and accomplishments, especially prior to a major label hand.
With the current single, “Know What You Mean,” Sister 7 is receiving video acceptance at VH-1, M2, and The Box; the single is taking no prisoners at the charts as well. “Know What You Mean,” has been rocketing up the charts with multi-formattic airplay with spots in the Top 20 on Billboard, R&R, and Gavin chart (all with bullets and still on the rapid rise).
With This The Trip, Sister 7 has given notice that good rock music needs not be labeled or categorized in one of many little sub genres to make your feet move and your heart race. Sister 7 has just begun a new musical journey and beckon… “This The Trip, trip on baby, come along”
