SKUNK ANANSIE GIVE FANS POST ORGASMIC CHILL:
Eclectic, hard hitting new album marks band’s Virgin Records debut;Single “The Skank Heads” ships to radio in July; U.S. dates with Rammstein booked for June, and Band will return to North America for tour in late summer

SKUNK ANANSIE-the iconoclastic British rock quartet Request magazine have hailed as “an eclectic amalgam of noise and nuance”-shatter all preconceptions with their forthcoming CD, Post Orgasmic Chill. Produced by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Jeff Buckley) the album is due in stores August 24 and features 12 unforgettable tracks. The CD will be preceded in July by the insistent single, “The Skank Heads.” What’s more, an enhanced CD from the U.K. featuring the standout track “Charlie Big Potato” and two non-album B sides, plus the video for “Charlie Big Potato,” is being shipped to college radio in anticipation of the album’s release.

Fans will have the opportunity to hear the new songs in a live setting when SKUNK ANANSIE tour in early June with Rammstein, hitting such cities as New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, among others. The band will also play several headlining clubs on the West Coast in Los Angeles and San Francisco before returning to North America for a full-scale tour in August and September.

Rolling Stone described SKUNK ANANSIE’s live show as a sociopolitical extravaganza “that is as much an assault on the eyes as it is on your precious ears.” In its 1997 profile of the band, the Los Angeles Times made favorable comparisons to Funkadelic, the Sex Pistols, Rage Against the Machine and Oasis before concluding: “With no subject seemingly taboo, SKUNK has at tacked hypocrisy in religionracism and touched upon matters from sensuality to its own image. It all adds up to a mixture that is rewarding for discerning listeners.”

Anything but frigid, Post Orgasmic Chill is SKUNK ANANSIE’s most ambitious recording to date. A deft combination of punk, metal, electronica, funk, reggae, ambient pop and neo-classical balladry, the album establishes SKUNK ANASIE as one of the world’s most intelligent and compelling rock acts. The new album finds the band-vocalist SKIN, guitarist ACE, bassist CASS and drummer MARK-honing their punk-inflected rock to a keen pojnt. Post Orgasmic Chill is the hard-rocking culmination of SKUNK ANANSIE’s non-stop touring and recording ethic. The new tracks were painstakingly rehearsed and arranged before being committed to tape. As guitarist ACE explains, the band’s goal was to exceed their own high standards: “We needed to move on to step up a level. It needed to be better, stronger, more melodic. We really got into the vibe of each song, whether it was aggressive or moody.

Post Orgasmic Chill is the result of the band’s determined mindset. SKUNK ANANSIE’s trademark punk-metal excursions are offset by soulful tracks like “I’m not Afraid” and “Lately” in which SKIN unleashes her remarkable whisper-to-a-scream vocals. Similarly impressive are tunes like “You’ll Follow Me Down” and “Secretly,” in which the band’s authoritative rhythms are counterpointed by lush, strings and captivating melodies.

Even the album’s full-bore rockers are animated by a fiery experimental spirit. Tracks like “Charlie Big Potato” and “And This Is Nothing That I thought I Had” combine exotic, pelvis-pumping rhythms with explosive guitar figures. Whether regaling the dark, sadistic pleasures of destruction on “Tracy’s Flaw,” or ranting against sensory overload on “On My Hotel TV,” Post Orgasmic Chill examines social and political issues with vein-popping aplomb.
