THE LINE: Shyne went to jail for the nightclub shooting incident involving P. Diddy. Did Shyne take the fall? You make the call. Most of the record was recorded before Shyne went to prison while others were recorded over the phone.
THE GREAT:
“Diamonds and Mac-10’s” – When you are born into the system you stay in the system and Shyne uses that ill-fated life to shoot verbal artillery.
THE AVERAGE:
“Quasi O.G.” – Sampling Bob Marley’s “No More Trouble,” Shyne tries to take on history while losing his way.
“For The Record” – Shyne takes shots at 50 Cent for being nothing more than a verbal killer. This is gangster.
“More or Less” – “I’m rockin sideways/ Motherf***ers, crime pays.” You can take that anyway you want—even with Foxy Brown trying to move the song along it never breaks out of the starting gates.
THE BAD:
“Martyr” – Shyne reaches for a Tupac style flow and never meets the demand.
“Jimmy Choo” – Shyne takes swings at 50 Cent for making pop sounding tracks and then he goes and does the same thing—does that make sense to you?
FRANKLY: The production is so bad that it’s almost impossible to enjoy the record. Shyne has the skills to pay the bills to bad even when he is swinging at the likes of 50 Cent. Shyne doesn’t do anything to prove he is better other than the fact that he claims to have held the smoking gun. If jail alone made you a legit rapper there’d be millions of convicts recording records.
