Out of obscurity rose Jessica Simpson. It seemed she came out of nowhere and took the pop world by storm, but her journey wasn’t overnight. Instead of sitting back and waiting once again for the hand of fate, Simpson follows up her debut with the hot Irresistible.
“Irresistible” is a tasty morsel that combines all the necessary ingredients to be a hit. Simpson follows that up with “A Little Bit”, which is more than it claims. But it’s the excitable “What’s It Gonna Be” that lets you know Simpson is no fluke.
Jessica Simpson isn’t leaving anything at stake as Marc Anthony joins her to spread the love on the ballad “There You Were”. And Simpson kicks out the seductively sweet ballads just as well all by herself. You only need to hear “When You Told Me You Loved Me” to understand.
As unimpressed as I usually am with all the pop music nonsense that seems to be pouring out of every record label lately, there is a place in my heart for Irresistible. It doesn’t consist of the typical filler, nor is it completely shamelessly put together. Yes, they have a sexy picture of Jessica on the cover and, yes, there are a handful of ballads, but they are all balanced out with an amazing voice and tracks that kept my droopy eyelids at bay. Irresistible is better than Simpson’s debut. With a much matured voice, just listen to the powerful “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”. These songs, not aimed at those just weaned from elementary school, will find a larger audience than those of most pop queens.
