The first thing you notice about the smooth and willowy voice of folky Bree Sharp is its resemblance to that of Natalie Merchant. The first single, “David Duchovny”, is silly yet witty, about the hunky actor from the X-Files. The problem is that one listen to it is enough.
Sharp’s songs are honest and introspective. She has no problem wearing her heart on her sleeve on either “Walk Away” or “Smitten”. Even though both songs are a little folk, they could easily make their way onto pop radio. The beautiful “Fallen” takes you back to the dark place in your soul. Nothing is sweeter than a strong voice mixed with acoustic guitars and a heart on the line.
“Cheap And Evil Girl” is catchy, but sounds like a go-go dance song that you might here in an Austin Powers movie. “Faster Faster” comes up next and is amazing. This is by far the best song on the album, though I’m not exactly sure why. It is just fabulous. “Fool’s Gold” is witty. I guess Sharp’s biggest assets are her wonderful voice and smart lyrics.
The album ends on a high note with the fiery “Show Me”. Bree Sharp has the voice to make it big. This disc is only a stepping stone to what will surely be a bright future.
