Semisonic wants to be cool. They are trying so hard that they might even convince themselves. These one hit wonders who made it big with the surprise hit “Closing Time” are back again, writing for the charts while trying to strike the cool poses that real rockstars know in their sleep.
All About Chemistry is as soft as pop rock gets. Semisonic never insults your intelligence or offends the listener. Now will any of these songs find a place on the charts? If that “Closing Time” could do it, then “She’s Got My Number” and “El Matador” could do the same. As for the rest of the album, my attention span just couldn’t stay with it.
Semisonic wants us to know that it is All About Chemistry, but somewhere along the way the test tube cracked and the soul leaked out. Another experiment gone bad.
