Seal – IV

Seal
Artist: Seal
Title: IV
Label: Warner Bros.
Rating: 8.5/10

Company Line: After five years away, Seal is back with his new album entitled simply ‘Seal.’ It’s a sublime collection of eleven new songs on a par with Seal’s best work to date. The new material is elevated by Seal’s rich vocal gift, a voice that has continued to evolve with newfound levels of soul and strength. While the album began to take shape a year ago, it is actually the end result of a long and sometimes painful period of creative reappraisal, a process that began almost three years earlier.

The Good:
“Waiting For You” (win: 56 | 128) – This song has everything a good song should; Soul, passion, and a fantastic chorus.
“Love’s Divine” – Absolutely gorgeous. It could really make you cry. Seal shows why we fell in love with him and his out-of-this-world voice in the first place. Cherish this.
“Don’t Make Me Wait” – Another ballad by most artists would come as a snooze. With Seal it’s a gift.
“Where There’s Gold” – Starts off with a deceptive beat that sounds like the opening for the TV show ‘Cops’, what a decoy as Seal launches into a brilliant song about love and life.
“Your Touch” and “Lonliest Star” – Seal’s voice is hypnotic.

The Average:
“Get It Together” – Deceptive is the first track. It has this club vibe that thankfully gets lost on the rest of the record, well except on “My Vision”.

The Ugly:
Whatever.

Frankly: Seal could make you fall in love with music all over again. I didn’t own one Seal record before this review – I own them all now. No one should let IV sit on the shelf. Buy it, love it, and be glad you do.
