Ricky Martin may have opened the doors for Latin music, but before he was a household name, there was Jon Secada. Jon Secada was there when Gloria Estefan was making a name for herself as the Miami Sound Machine opened a few doors to bring their salsa/Latin mix to the world. Secada paid his dues over and over again.
Jon Secada’s just released Better Part Of Me offers the familiar sound and style heard from him and other well known artists, from Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez. “Stop” sounds like a hit single. If anyone deserves a hit, it’s Secada. “Papi” has potential to be another breaker.
Secada has a tendency to go a bit overboard with slow songs. “Break The Walls” is a bit of a bore. He tricks you into believing “Better Part Of Me” is going the same route as “Break The Walls” when all of the sudden a dance breaks out. There is no question: Secada still has it and you only need to hear “There’s No Sunshine Anymore” to realize it.
Better Part Of Me brings a few bonuses. You get a re-mix of “Papi” and Spanish versions of “Stop” and “Lost Inside You”. Secada brings you plenty of bang for your buck.
