Roni Size is well known across the land, that is everywhere outside of the US. Prepare for that to change. Roni Size has proven the possibilities; the lines drawn in the music industry can be erased.
In The Mode brings Roni Size together with his crew, Reprazent. They’ve latched onto hip-hop and have given it some flair. They’ve gone back to the roots of rap while taking drum ‘n’ bass to its future. “System Check” gives you a taste of the concoction. Roni Size is truly a mad professor. Method Man joins the mayhem on “Ghetto Celebrity”. I bet he hasn’t heard frantic beats like this before. MC Dynamite proves his rhyming skills are above par as he takes a stab at “Switchblade” and “Dirty Beats”. Rahzel continues to amaze with his human beat machine. Out of the woods comes Zack de la Rocha, who recently called it quits on his day job with Rage Against The Machine. Zack doesn’t get out of his usual groove as he mixes it up on “Centre Of The Storm”. Maybe he’s found a new line of music. Or maybe Roni has found a great way of mixing a few genres on one record. Out of the storm comes “Play The Game”. A lovely piano induces the idea that these possibilities are endless as long as the members aren’t afraid to show all their sides.
Roni Size/Reprazent covers a lot of ground. Their nonspecific genre sound splits music into many forms, not allowing them to be pushed into a corner. Instead they tear down the walls set by artists past and have rebuilt them with a collage of sound that has no bounds.
