Reverend Horton Heat – Lucky 7

Reverend Horton Heat
Artist: Reverend Horton Heat
Title: Lucky 7
Label: Artemis
Rating: 7.5/10

There is no one doing rockabilly today like the Reverend Horton Heat. He has been killing us with melody whether it’s punk, pop, or whatever. He is relentless and his music shows that.

“Like A Rocket” is rockabilly at its best. It proves that being cool and sounding the same can go hand in hand. Then the slower “What’s Reminding Me Of You” still comes off fun and full of life.

High octane is the only way to explain “Reverend Horton Heat’s Big Blue Car”. “Galaxy 500” don’t even allow you a chance to breathe. Even when the gas is diesel it’s not just all power and no speed. “Suicide Doors” will do its best to bounce you around as you bop to it screaming down the street.

Even when quirky like on “You’ve Got A Friend In Jimbo” the Reverend Horton Heat is still putting out music that is more interesting to listen to than half of the artists out there today. Lucky 7 is all that and then some. But more skill than luck!
