Rihanna – A Girl Like Me

Rihanna
Artist: Rihanna
Title: A Girl Like Me
Label: Def Jam
Rating: 6.5/10

FILE UNDER: R&B goes pop.

CORPORATE LINE: With A Girl Like Me, the beautiful singer proves that her breakthrough was no fluke. After selling 1 million copies worldwide of her debut Music Of The Sun, once again, the summer may belong to Rihanna.

THE GOOD:
“SOS” – With a nice beat borrowed straight from “Tainted Love,” Rihanna comes up with a song that steals your feet as you move to the beat.
“Dem Haters” – The hook highlights the song.
“Final Goodbye” – Even though the song sounds eerily familiar, Rihanna brings so much emotion and melody to the table that you can’t help but get sucked in.

THE AVERAGE:
“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” – A sexy song with a great Caribbean beat.
“Kisses Don’t Lie” – Rihanna’s sexy voice makes an average song exciting.

THE BAD:
”Unfaithful” – It tries to sound sexy, however Rihanna’s voice is too affected and she tries to take on a style that doesn’t fit her.

FRANKLY: Rihanna is easy on the ears. The songs flow like silk with hooks that are hitmakers. The only issue is after track six most songs are filler. Even though the last tracks won’t heatseek up the charts none are so bad that you will regret owning them. This is definitely the kind of album that takes more than a few listens to fall in love—particularly with the ballads.
