If Chris Rock isn’t the funniest comedian in the world today, then I don’t know who is. His latest album, Bigger & Blacker, is hilarious. Period. His observations on such things as black malls that used to be white folk’s malls before they stopped shopping there are gut busting. And who does Chris Rock fear more than anyone? White kids. Buy the disc and find out why.
Even though most of the cd is great, the little song parodies and skits aren’t as good as his standup routine. It’s in the pieces when Rock is in front of a crowd doing standup that he’s at his best. Some of his funniest observations are on women, especially “fat black women,” taxes, and so much more. This is the kind of comedy album that you’ll find funny even after a few listens. If Eddie Murphy’s Delirious is considered one of the greatest comedy albums of all time, then, though Chris Rock still has a way to go in putting together a full-fledged comedy gem, this album is a jewel. Rock just needs more standup and fewer skits to have an entire album that makes you laugh yourself silly.
