This is the perhaps the last Rage release youll ever see, and honestly it may be the best since the first release. You get Rage from all sides, from serious to heartfelt.
From covers of hip hoppers, like Eric B. and Rakims “Microphone Fiend” to EPMDs “Im Housin”, you start to understand Rages roots. But its the amazing cover of MC5s “Kick Out The Jams” that blew me away. Nothing is more amazing than the solo where Tom Morello completely shatters the concept of guitar playing. I havent heard something that amazing done with a guitar since, well, Hendrix. And then Morello licks it up on Minor Threats “In My Eyes””. Its Rage faster and more ferocious than Ive ever heard them.
Perhaps the most astounding track is the ballad, though tongue-in-cheek, Devos “Beautiful World”. Its Zack being vulnerable. Dont get down so quickly because they pick it up fast with Cypress Hills “How I Could Just Kill A Man”.
Renegades rolls out with four classics to finish you off. The most-well known of all the songs Rage covers is Bruce Springsteens “The Ghost Of Tom Joad”. A super hype version of the Rolling Stones “Street Fighting Man” joins the party as well as the best of the classics in Bob Dylans “Maggies Farm”.
This is Rage like youve never seen them or may ever see them again. Renegades promotes the Rage of the past while giving in to the Rage of the moment.
