The Pretenders – Loose Screw

The Pretenders
Artist: The Pretenders
Title: Loose Screw
Label: Artemis
Rating: 8/10

Loose Screw is the first album from the Pretenders since ’99. Chrissie Hynde is still fronting the same crew since the early days. The big question is whether they still have it or not.

They Got It:
“Fools Must Die” and “Kinda Nice, I Like It” – Now this is the Pretenders.
“Nothing Breaks Like A Heart” and “Saving Grace” – This ballad is as surprising as anything else they have to offer.
“The Losing” – Doesn’t sound like the Pretenders, yet still delicious.

On The Fence:
“You Know Who Your Friends Are” – Almost liked it.
“Lie To Me” – Goes back and forth from cheesy too interesting.
“Complex Person” – There is something grating about this track yet something pleasing as well.

They Lost It:
“Clean Up Woman” – They should have cut this.
