The Promise Ring – Wood/Water

The Promise Ring
Artist: The Promise Ring
Title: Wood/Water
Label: Anti
Rating: 6/10

Artist: The Promise Ring
Sound like: Emo (pop/punk)

Wood:
“Half Year Son” – First track where the sentiment matches the music.
“My Life Is At Home”
“Bread And Coffee”

Neither solid/nor liquid:
“Stop Playing Guitar” – Occasionally interesting.
“Suffer Never” – Who says?
“Become One Anything One Time” – Almost wood.

Water:
“Size Of Your Life” – Although the musical melody is lovely the overdone vocal effects get in the way.
“Wake Up April” – The impotent words fall so predictable along a slow bassline.
“Letters To The Far Reaches”
“Say Goodbye Good” – Can someone say tune it up?

With vocals that sound off more than they do, you start to get supremely annoyed and frustrated as you realize everything sounds good. Wood/Water mixes about as well as most of Promise Ring’s tracks.
