Poster Children

October 1987- The stock market had just crashed, Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted on TV and RoboCop was entertaining movie audiences everywhere. It was at this time that Rose (bass) and Rick (guitar) formed Poster Children in Champaign, Illinois. Two years and two drummers later they released their first record FLOWER PLOWER on a small Chicago label, Limited Potential.

By 1991 the band was on drummer number four, had added a second guitarist, and had recorded their second album DAISY CHAIN REACTION for the slightly larger than small Minneapolis label, Twin/Tone. Touring became a full time obsession and Poster Children developed a reputation for putting on a stellar live show. During those crazy days in late 1992 (you remember), the band found themselves in cahoots with Sire/Reprise Records, a division of the overwhelmingly large Time/Warner corporation. Armed with drummer number five and guitarist-for-life Jim, they released TOOL OF THE MAN in 1993.

More touring followed. With the appearance of Howie on drums, Poster Children solidified into its current lineup and released the JUST LIKE YOU EP (1994) and JUNIOR CITIZEN album (1995). Even more touring followed, including an appearance on Lollapalooza.

Drawing on their dark pasts in the field of computer science, the band staked out an early claim on the web (www.posterchildren.com) and created their own enhanced CD, RTFM (1997) which contained a multimedia wonderland of music, games and graphics. The touring continued… Recently, by mutual disagreement it was decided that Poster Children no longer needed to be under the umbrella of the Brothers Warner and the search for a new home ended with spinART, a well proportioned label in New York City.

Instead of spending money on fast cars and loose women during their corporate rock years, Poster Children invested in computers and recording gear preparing for the day when they would return to the independent world. Always a do-it-yourself type of band, the one area they left in the capable hands of others (Mssrs. Burgess, Albini, and Goggin to name a few) was recording. With their new release, NEW WORLD RECORD, Poster Children have taken on the task of committing themselves to tape at their home studio, Studio Tedium, and the results are rawer, more intense, and more like their live shows. It’s the difference between homemade apple pie and store bought. Of course NEW WORLD RECORD is also Enhanced; with live videos, screensavers (for Mac and Windows), a tour simulation game, and a gateway to www.posterchildren.com, with its famous tour reports and access to the new songs in MP3 format.
