Lisa Marie Presley – To Whom It May Concern

Lisa Marie Presley
Artist: Lisa Marie Presley
Title: To Whom It May Concern
Label: Capitol
Rating: 5/10

Company Line: That all changes with the release of To Whom It May Concern, which marks the emergence of the real Lisa Marie Presley — and the emergence of a new, strong voice in the pop music world, both literally and figuratively.

The Good:
“Lights Out” – Meaty and meaningful, Presley doesn’t have strong vocal skills. “Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis/That’s where my family’s buried and gone,”

The Marginal:
“S.O.B.” – LMP delivers one right down the middle. Her vocals are marginal at best and without any range.
“Important” – Poignant, but Presley can’t sing. She almost talks instead of singing. The lyrics are worth hearing like a car crash we can’t take our eyes away from.

The Ugly:
“Nobody Noticed It” – Rough vocals. Presley tries to sound daunting and dark it’s painful.

Frankly: Good, interesting lyrics even if it’s because we want to look through the window of the freak show. The biggest problem is that Presley has no vocal skills. On the album her voice is manufactured and can only be fixed so much. She is a one range, one pitch artist. Listen to “So Lovely”, she tries to push her voice during the chorus but there’s nothing left. Sentiment only goes so far and at the end of the day you have to sing it loud, and good.
