Pink Floyd is eternal. Their music has influenced generations and will continue to do so. Echoes is a chance for those who want to dive into the world of Pink Floyd without the need to buy dozens of albums to do so. Echoes is also a nice summation for the fan so they don’t need to fumble through their cds while driving. Echoes just might save a life.
Echoes is a nice retrospective of the long career of the group. For the new listener there is no doubt that they can fall in love with tracks like “Comfortably Numb”, “The Great Gig In The Sky”, “Money”, “See Emily Play”, and so on. There are many of the accessible songs that will enrapt the new fan. For the diehard fans the never released “When The Tigers Broke Free” is a great addition.
Overall the album Echoes is fantastic. But Pink Floyd is absolutely the hardest band to sum up on a greatest hits album because each album has their own voice, it’s own reason, and they go together in one beautiful package. It’s very hard to separate them and run them together on a string and with saying that I thoroughly enjoyed Echoes. Driving to the airport one evening in a vast amount of traffic I found Echoes to be my saving mental grace.
