The boom of ’90’s style rock has left many great bands lost and without a home. Platypus is a newly formed outfit with former members of King’s X, Dream Theater, and Dixie Dregs. Their style takes a step backward into the late ’70’s era of psychedelic guitar rock reminiscent of Deep Purple and Yes.
Although their album, When Pus Comes To Shove, is on an independent label, it is a big-time collaboration of some of progressive rock’s most talented musicians. Each song is distinctly different from the last. The solos throughout are crafted with perfection and the three instrumentals feature moving slides and time-changes that will make any fan grateful.
This group may not receive the attention it deserves, but that doesn’t detract from the members’ talent. Platypus is a group for the music buff, one who knows quality musicianship at the drop of a needle or spinning of a disc.
