If you thought Tupac had many lives, what about Biggie Smalls (Notorious B.I.G.)? Here he is Born Again with a release that seems put together with duct tape. But the splices are smooth and Biggie’s rhymes flow like blood through the thumping heartbeats of an 808. His style is unmistakable and certainly missed.
The album’s eighteen tracks boast fourteen guests. Ice Cube drops by, but drops out. Sadat X (Brand Nubian) is one of the best guests and the most obscure on “Come On”. Juvenile, Mobb Depp and Craig Mack all break it down nicely, but it is Eminem who really tears the walls apart. “Dead Wrong” is the song that really kicks you in the ass. Busta makes waves and Lil’ Kim gets dirty.
Biggie had a lot to give and I only hope this isn’t all that is left in the vault. His legacy may stand up; only time will tell. Born Again or not, this album is a must. It’s the past and the future together now.
