NSNYC – No Strings Attached

NSNYC
Artist: NSNYC
Title: No Strings Attached
Label: Jive
Rating: 6.5/10

‘NSYNC is back with their third album, No Strings Attached, and they’re poised to take over the world. The first single, “Bye Bye Bye”, just might be the most infectious song I’ve heard from a boy band to date.

No Strings Attached leans more toward hip-hop than did previous releases and gives them the added leverage to beat their made to order boy band rep, though they won’t shake that tag for quite some time. If you need proof of their growth, just check out the album’s contributors: She’kspere, Teddy Riley, and Riprock. Then comes the problem with this new hip-hop exterior. Tracks like “Bringin’ Da Noise” and “It Makes Me Ill” don’t sit well on the palette. The real stinker is “Space Cowboy (Yippie-Yi-Yay), with guest “Left-Eye” Lopes of TLC. It’s as lame as its title.

Of course, they have plenty of love songs to make the girls swoon. Just take a listen to “That’s When I’ll Stop Loving You”. ‘NSYNC goes raw doing “I Thought She Knew” a cappella. Perhaps the best track is “I’ll Be Good For You”, with Justin Timberlake out front.

This album may find them on their own, somehow removed from militaristic management and a stifling record label, but they still have a long way to go musically. Although this album will outsell everyone and leave the world in its wake, it’ll be interesting to see how ‘NSYNC develops in the next few years.
