Nelly – Country Grammar

Nelly
Artist: Nelly
Title: Country Grammar
Label: Universal
Rating: 9/10

Straight out of St. Louie comes Nelly, a new mc with visions of being one of the best hip-hop has to offer. Country Grammar may be a bizarre title for the release of a hip-hop artist, but don’t let that sway you. Nelly is the real deal. Just take a listen to “St. Louie”. The track hits hard without needing a parental discretion tag.

“Greed, Hate, Envy” has a mix of rap and a hook that’s more rock than anything. It seriously grows on you. Remember the children’s song “Down, Down Baby”? “Country Grammar” gets its start from there and takes it to a whole new level. City Spud finds his way onto “Ride Wit Me”, which just might be the album’s hottest track.

Nelly recruited Lil Wayne who definitely delivers on “For My”. Nelly always brings a surprise, track to track. “Utha Side” is no different. Just when you think Nelly can’t get any better, he does. Now I know you remember the Jeffersons? Nelly couldn’t resist but to borrow their theme song. Funny, but it works.

Nelly has made one of the best and most complete hip-hop albums in years. From tracks one to seventeen, you are nothing but entertained. Nelly is a force to be reckoned with and will be for a long time to come.
