CORPORATE LINE: “Sweat has more club joints and more street-oriented songs,” says Nelly in describing his new album Sweat (one of two albums he will release on September 14, 2004). Like its name implies, Sweat is purely about the workout. Suit is all about the “grown and sexy,” says Nelly in describing his new album Suit. Tailor made for the lover and thinker in you, Suit finds Nelly pouring out his melodic “pimp juice” and opening up his heart over adult compositions.
THE GREAT:
“Play It Off” – Nelly is smooth as silk. Should we be surprised? Hardly.
“My Place” f/Jaheim – Jaheim injects soul as he duets with Nelly as they go old school.
“Tilt Ya Head Back” f/Christina Aguilera – Nelly and Christina tear it up.
“Over And Over” f/Tim McGraw – Nelly and Tim McGraw? Can you be serious? “Over and Over” is one sexy, seductive track that will have all the ladies drooling.
“River Don’t Runnin” f/Murphy Lee and Stephen Marley – Reggae and Nelly go together like hand and glove. It’s a surprise he hasn’t tried it sooner.
THE AVERAGE:
“Na-Nana-Na” – Nelly wants a hit single—it’s juicy and flows like sugar without the sweetness.
“Another One” – Hot, but weak lyrics hurt what could be a hit single.
“Heart of a Champion” – Nelly shoots to make an epic too bad it never comes to fruition.
“Paradise” –Nelly flows.
“In My Life” f/Mase and Avery Storm – Nelly’s is a river and Mase a stream.
THE BAD:
“Spida Man” – Plain awful.
FRANKLY: Nelly could have made “Sweat” and “Suit” into “Sweat Suit.” There are throwaway songs so why the double record–because Outkast cashed in on a double record? They have two members—Nelly is solo. If Nelly released the twelve best tracks this would have been record of the year.
