Company Line: “‘Wooden,” he continues, “if you break it down, it comes from a seed to be a plant to be a tree. Wood is symbolic in America as a structure that made us who we are. Wood and leather put together is the classic combination. If you take care of them, the two of them will last forever. If you take care of this ‘WOODEN LEATHER’ CD, you’ll continue to hear classic music, songs you can put on five, ten, a hundred years from now and say ‘that was good music.’”
The Good:
“Lac Dogs & Hogs” – Even the tight beats can’t knock that southern drawl down a tempo.
“Sick & Tired” – A taste of the limelight can beat you down, but instead of being sick and tired they make the best out of it – here is the proof.”
“Nappy Roots Day” – Another holiday?
“Leave This Morning” ft. Raphael Saddiq – Gorgeous.
“Push On” ft. Anthony Hamilton – It grows on you.
The Average:
“Good God Almight” – Each Nappy gets a turn at the mic, some hotter than others. The most interesting aspect is how the track doesn’t get monotonous with each turn.
“No Good” – Hot flow with a weak chorus that tries to reproduce that from the first record.
The Ugly:
“Twang” – Should have been cut.
“War/Peace” – Nappy + Rock = Disaster.
Frankly: Nappy Roots makes you want to jump in your car, roll down the windows, hit the highway and head south for some southern comfort.
