Morcheeba – Parts of the Process

Morcheeba
Artist: Morcheeba
Title: Parts of the Process
Label: Reprise
Rating: 7/10

Company Line: Morcheeba hit us with their Greatest Hits. “It’s amazing, the feelings that this compilation stirs. I can’t believe how far we have come and how good it sounds. Even the difficult tracks are impressive I feel like an old man looking back at my life with a pleasant resignation.” Paul Godfrey

The Good:
“The Sea” – It’s what you’d expect to be on this record with its haunting good looks.
“Tape Loop” – Tends to run through you head like a loop. It’s entirely unforgettable.
“Blindfold” – It has that radio friendly atmosphere while standing tall on its own.
“Trigger Hippie” – Trippy. The one track that might have one most of Morcheeba’s fans over.
“Way Beyond” – Infectious.

The Marginal:
“Otherwise” – Good track that seems mostly made for radio.
“Parts Of The Process” – It’s country flair adds up to a surprisingly wonderful track.
“Undress Me Now” – An airy flavor that gives you and idea of how deep the talent level is.
“Over and Over” – Simply love just not very deep. The strings add a wonderful atmosphere that isn’t filled by the lyrics.

The Ugly:
“Be Yourself” – Not deserving of placement on this greatest hits record.
“What’s Your Name” and “Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day” – Wack.

Frankly: Morcheeba is always refreshing to hear but you have to wonder if this record was necessary or good to release. Without being released as they are on a record they often sound out of place and disjointed next to each other. It’s a good way to get a feel for the group just not as all encompassing as it could or should be.
