Debelah Morgan has a voice that will strike you from the roof to the floor. It’s filled with the emotion once associated with the likes of Whitney Houston. Dance With Me is an exercise in bringing a positive vibe to the world we would all like to live in.
You only need to hear the single “Dance With Me” to get a nip of the flavor you will soon be overwhelmed with. If you think Whitney Houston is the only diva that should watch over her shoulder, you’d be wrong. Mariah had better not get too secure as Morgan can hit Mariah’s signature high falsettos with ease. I actually think Morgan can get even higher than Mariah. Take a listen to “I Remember”. Talk about breaking glass. Wow!
Dance With Me picks up, track after track. “Close To You” is tender while “Let’s Get It On” goes more for the sassy. The only problem I have is with “Rain”. It’s a pretty blatant rip of Mariah’s “Emotions”.
It’s almost impossible to get noticed as a new artist without some sort of shtick. Debelah Morgan doesn’t need it. Yes, she is beautiful, she has an extraordinary voice and good songs. However, in today’s fickle market that isn’t always enough. I just can’t imagine Dance With Me getting passed by. It’s certainly one of the strongest pop albums I’ve heard in a long time. Look out world, here comes this century’s newest diva.
