Corporate Line: Mandy Moore’s Coverage includes twelve classic pop/rock anthems and ballads from the 1970s and 80s. Adding a soulfulness to Todd Rundgren’s “Can We Still Be Friends,” putting a Nashville twang to Carly Simon’s “Anticipation,” and rocking out on Joan Armatrading’s rollicking “Drop The Pilot,” Moore reinvents the music and herself.
The Good:
Ziltch.
The Average:
“I Feel The Earth Move” – Carole King is one of the great songwriters – Moore tries hard to pull it off.
“Anticipation” – Carly Simon won’t feel pained and either am I.
“One Way Or Another” – Moore doesn’t have the balls to pull of this Blonde song.
The Ugly:
“Breaking Us In Two” – Barely better than American Idol.
“Sense Working Overtime” – Moore’s voice sounds wonderful and mature, but this cover song couldn’t be worse.
“Can We Still Be Friends” – Moore sounds good – the backup singers give me pains that shutter throughout my body.
“Drop The Pilot” – You have to be kidding me.
Frankly: Mandy Moore seems to march to a different drummer than her contemporaries Britney and Christina. The idea was good but the problem was most of the songs bad. Moore makes the songs her own, but she could continue to make them her own while singing in her car, but not by bringing it into our cars.
