Life has changed a lot for one Mandy Moore. In two years her life has been flipped upside down. From singing about “Candy” she’s matured quite a bit and so has her music.
Mandy’s voice sounds older, stronger and like it knows how to long for something gone. “In My Pocket” is a track you might expect from a Jessica Simpson or Christina Aguilera. “Saturate Me” is of the similar sort. It sounds deeper, wiser, but also somewhat darker. “17” is a twist of a love song. It’s hard to figure out where this is going. What ever happened to that cotton candy pop we came to expect?
“You Remind Me” is much more spunky and natural. “Crush” is quite happy, even taking a bit from Lisa Loeb. “Turn The Clock Around” sounds like a completely different artist. These songs sound like absolute departures from the Mandy Moore the world knew. Honestly the other Mandy grew quite tiresome, but this album seems like it will cross many more borders for the young artist.
If a track like “From Loving You” doesn’t give you a hint of what is up with the new Mandy I’m not sure which track could.
