Mephisto Odyssey has dropped something that seems to come from another planet, perhaps Mars. It makes you wonder as the album is aptly titled The Deep Red Connection. Perhaps I’m just reading way too much into this thing or maybe I’m on the verge of cracking some sort of caper. Either way, the music is made up of synthetic emissions of the utmost power.
I have to agree with the title “Some Kinda Freak”. The song has the flavor perfected by Fatboy Slim as the groove jives around a central hook.
Mephisto Odyssey kind of loses me on “I’m The Man”. Not because the music is lacking, but because the guest speaker, or rapper, Hanibal Now, isn’t even close to being at their skill level. Angelcat fills “I Breathe You” to the top with her pretty voice as bombs explode all around.
As great as much of the music sounds, it’s the occasional guest voices that bring it down. The Chemical Brothers brought this trend to the table, but they found fitting voices from all spectrums. Mephisto Odyssey takes a few people and throws them haphazardly around on the same album. And only one, Static-X, gives you much to listen to.
