Meat Loaf – VH1 Storytellers

Meat Loaf
Artist: Meat Loaf
Title: VH1 Storytellers
Label: Beyond
Rating: 5/10

The stories are, at the very least, entertaining. Almost as if their conversation were scripted, Meat Loaf and an audience member talk about her first kiss, leading Meat right into “You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Nights)”, from Meat Loaf’s classic Bat Out Of Hell. Also from that album are “Heaven Can Wait”, “Paradise By The Dashboard Light”, “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad”, and “Bat Out Of Hell”.

“I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)” starts off with Meat Loaf telling you what ‘that’ is. I’m not going to spoil you with the answer. And, by the way, his voice is still pretty damn good, though he slurs a few of the words, which I find annoying.

The story behind “More Than You Deserve” would probably find interest in the hearts of Meat Loaf fans. The best discussion is about the Bat Out Of Hell album, and specifically “Paradise By The Dashboard Light”. The version of the song featured here is a bit different and much longer, lasting almost ten minutes.

This album is a must for fans. I didn’t find it very exciting, mostly because I’m only an occasional Meat Loaf listener, very occasional, like every half-decade or so. If you have every Meat Loaf release and just want to add to your library, by all means, buy this. If not, I can’t recommend it.
