After a few listens to Beautiful Creatures’ self-titled album, I couldn’t decide where these guys were coming from or where they were going. I do know who their influences are: Guns ‘N’ Roses, AC/DC, and more. But can they find their own voice?
“1 a.m.” opens with an onslaught of rock that reminds you of AC/DC, but then they go and bury that with “Wasted”. “Step Back” invokes too much thought of Metallica and that very recognizable riff. Believe me, this isn’t the only time these guys borrow from their idols. “Kick Out” might as well be an AC/DC cover.
Beautiful Creatures provoke what many feel when they think of hair bands: cheesiness. The problem isn’t the band, it’s the lyrics. They are so cheesy. They don’t flow, they don’t invoke feelings. They don’t even make sense half of the time. These guys couldn’t even carry Buckcherry’s equipment.
