Paul McCartney – Driving Rain

Paul McCartney
Artist: Paul McCartney
Title: Driving Rain
Label: Capitol
Rating: 8/10

Paul McCartney is no mere mortal. Even when he puts out fluff we find ourselves enjoying it and reminiscing of the days long gone. In the last few years McCartney has gone through many highs and lows. The release of Run Devil Run was a look back at his youth while mourning the loss of his wife Linda. Now back and pushing through Driving Rain, Sir Paul McCartney puts out his best album in decades.

Don’t you dare think McCartney is all ballads. “Driving Rain” has a great hook. I’ve listened to it at least a dozen times. Stuck in the rain but never happier is “Rinse The Raindrops”. And the heehaws never got so high as on “Your Way” and its country knack.

“From A Lover To A Friend” opens the door with his token simplicity that always sounds larger than life. “Lonely Road” is going to last ever long in the anthology of Paul, and then there is another along the same line in “There Must Have Been Magic”. I can’t put my finger on what it is, but magic seems to be a pretty good word to explain how it is this man can still keep us entertained.
