CORPORATE LINE: Unwritten Law inhabits the upper echelon of successful punk bands, bands whose substance and longevity overshadow the countless hordes of imitation, fly-by-night pop-punk operations riding a one-way train to anonymity. In a musical climate where audiences write off and forget hundreds of bands who lack a smidgen of ingenuity, Unwritten Law repeatedly proves that its music connects with, attracts, and inspires loyalty in an ever-growing legion of fans worldwide.
THE GREAT:
“Get Up” – Seriously, the verses blows away the chorus. How often does that happen? I could listen to the verses over and again. There is something about that melody that rocks infectiously. Cut out that chorus and this is one of the best tracks that we’ve heard in a while.
“Celebration Song” – Unbelievably the verse once again trumps the chorus.
“Because Of You” – Sure its not the strongest song in the world but I’ll confess to listening to this quite a few times.
THE AVERAGE:
“No Control” – A little too Offspring-ish.
“The Way” – Some great parts yet not great as a whole as the verse rocks and the chorus holds the song back.
“Walrus” – Completely different. Sounds eerily similar to a big hit from Roy Orbison.
THE BAD:
Nothing.
FRANKLY: Don’t call Unwritten Law a punk band as Here’s To The Mourning proves there is more to these guys than some barre chords. Over and over they prove that they can write songs with the best of the bands today. If you want songs that you can sing over and over again without feeling ashamed then Unwritten Law is the ticket.
