War launched a full-scale assault felt around the globe. It didn’t take long before U2 forever changed the landscape of rock. Although they were once the world’s biggest rock band, now they seem to be only a distant point on the horizon of music history. While the ’90’s have not been kind to these icons, their music helped to define the ’80’s.
What’s not to love about a collection of U2 hits? Well, the fact that many of their greatest songs were not included. Do you remember “Fire” and “Gloria”? Someone didn’t. If you want to listen to U2, skip this disc and buy Joshua Tree. Although the music here is phenomenal, you will get a better appreciation for this band and all that they once were if you hear their greatest hits alongside those songs that never made it to the top of the charts, but are no less memorable. As is the case with most of these compilations, owning Best of 1980-1990 simply cannot make up for owning all of the original albums.
