FILE UNDER: American Idol does it country style.
THE GREAT:
“Wasted” – Underwood delivers a fantastic country track that warms you up for more to come.
“We’re Young and Beautiful” – One of the best tracks on the entire album. Underwood proves she can put soul into her country voice.
“Jesus, Take The Wheel” – Showcases Underwood’s phenomenal vocal power and proves she was deserving of being named the American Idol. Her voice makes a plain song sound fantastic.
“Before He Cheats” – Underwood has enough skill and personality to take on this blues track.
“I Ain’t In Checotah Anymore” – A nice autobiographical song that Underwood brings home.
THE AVERAGE:
“Some Hearts” – A good song that is a little too pop rock and doesn’t fit the country record.
“The Night Before (Life Goes On)” – Underwood takes a simple pop song and injects her personality and country twang.
“Don’t Forget To Remember Me” – Underwood makes what is certainly an average song and makes it listenable. Her voice is satiny smooth and more pleasing than the lyrics.
“Lessons Learned” – Diane Warren delivers Underwood a big pop song—but it doesn’t fit Carrie’s style.
THE BAD:
Nothing.
FRANKLY: Carrie Underwood got the best Nashville had to in producer Dann Huff (Keith Urban and Faith Hill) and a handful of great songwriters such as Diane Warren, Brett James, Troy Verges, and Rivers Rutherford. Even as the album starts to tail off towards the end Some Hearts is still a wonderful freshman release from a very talented singer.
