Orgy – Vapor Transmission

Orgy
Artist: Orgy
Title: Vapor Transmission
Label: Reprise
Rating: 6.5/10

I will admit I didn’t care much for Orgy’s Candyass. It was too much synth candy for its own good. Vapor Transmission doesn’t deviate much except to bring the past planetary dance and hook to things a bit closer to earth.

“Raised by the queens your mother paid/ how does that make you a human god?” digs deep into the heart of the question posed by “Suckerface”, which asks, “Do you think you’re special?”. I always thought Orgy dug Duran Duran and the proof is in the pudding. Check out “Opticon”. Do you hear it? Okay, maybe I’m crazy. So sue me. But then what can you say about “Fiction (Dreams In Digital)”? Can you say “Girls On Film”? I’m done being hokey.

Whereas Candyass flirted with fiction, Vapor Transmission tries to be daring and dances between reality and altered states of existence. “Eva” finds Gordon carving out a piece of his soul: “I’m not as fearless as you/ still I pretend that you’re still standing by to tell me wrong from right/ never got a chance to say goodbye.” “Where’s Gerrold” finds them wondering on a friend while borrowing a clip from Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People”.

I find the problem with Orgy is that there is, once again, a bitter taste of monotony. Although the music recycles itself, it doesn’t change elements. It’s like taking water, mixing it with lemon, and calling it lemonade. It may taste a little different but it’s still flavored water. Enjoy.
