1000 Clowns – Freelance Bubblehead

1000 Clowns
Artist: 1000 Clowns
Title: Freelance Bubblehead
Label: Elektra
Rating: 6/10

Ladies and gentlemen: Introducing 1000 Clowns debut, Freelance Bubblehead, featuring lead vocals by Kevi, backed up by sisters Anita and Michelle. And what an album this is. It’s like walking outside on the first day of spring. It’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face when you’re feeling down. The album’s first single, ” (Not The) Greatest Rapper”, is an infectious combination of pop and hip-hop which reminded me of old school Slick Rick. This, combined with its fun and care free lyrics, helps to set the stage for other songs such as ” Everybody Smells So Different”, which is about -well, you guessed it- how everybody has their own smell. Also, on this album you will catch Kevi rapping about almost anything, from his Pug dog in the track “Pug”, to his favorite cat in “Kitty Kat Max”. And just when you think the 1000 Clowns are all out of ideas, Kevi hits you with his smooth beat-boxing abilities on the title track “Freelance Bubblehead”, which is mixed by Mario Caldato, the studio-wiz producer behind the Beastie Boys. Freelance Bubblehead is a fun, catchy, feel good album that will make you laugh. If you like the Beastie Boys, Beck, or old school rap such as Run DMC, then this album is definitely one to check out.
