Loudmouth – Loudmouth

Loudmouth
Artist: Loudmouth
Title: Loudmouth
Label: Atlantic
Rating: 6/10

With the single “Fly”, Loudmouth had the opportunity to get a lot of exposure on the Varsity Blues soundtrack. Although the popularity of the soundtrack was short-lived, Loudmouth has followed up with their first album, entitled simply Loudmouth.

The Chicago-based quartet has put rock ‘n’ roll back on the map. Their sound is an aggressive formula used in the past by some of the world’s greatest rock bands: Kiss, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. It is an uncompromising journey through heavy guitar riffs and driving vocals.

“No Heroes” follows their first single, “Fly”, and may be the rock anthem of the year. “Maybe” is a heavy, rock-laden ballad. Pop choruses are mixed with big guitars and drums; the sound is a combination of the ’70’s heaviness and ’80’s pop-metal choruses. “Turn If Off” is anti-radio. The song is about the sickening state of rock/alternative radio stations that seem to play the same ten songs over and over again. Perfect.

“The Road” will have metal fans in a frenzy. The screeching solos and chunky guitar fodder is their signature. This album consists of back to back great songs, no throwaways or fillers. If you love Metallica and The Black Crowes, you’ll love Loudmouth. This might be the best rock ‘n’ roll album of the year.
