Ludacris – Chicken N Beer

Ludacris
Artist: Ludacris
Title: Chicken N Beer
Label: Def Jam
Rating: 3/10

Corporate Line: With the release of his third album Chicken-N-Beer, 26-year old Ludacris has crafted one of the most expressive rap records in years. From the hot buttered opening of “Southern Fried Intro,” with its gutbucket rock guitars and fiery fem background vocals, Ludacris is on a mission to dispel any preconceived notions of what it means to be a southern rapper. As he declares on the opening verse, “Better turn up your stereo louder/Listen up and let me preach.”

The Good:
Let me sleep on that.

The Average:
“Stand Up” – Where did Ludacris’ style run off to?
“Hard Times” – He says the tank is empty and I agree.

The Ugly:
“Blow It Out” – Weak hook and the rhymes aren’t much better.
“Splash Waterfalls” – The chorus is made up of “F**k me”. I bet it took Ludacris a long time to figure that one out. His rhymes have lost their power.
“Screwed Up”
“Diamond In The Back” –Ludacris is just getting lazy.
“Hip Hop Quotables” – Ludacris brags that every album he releases has at least “10 bangers” – great songs another words. I’m glad someone thinks these songs are good.

Frankly: Ludacris is another in a line of rappers who have proven they don’t have what it takes to hang in the upper echelon of rappers like LL, Eminem, and Jay-Z. Ludacris is lazy and now he has dug a hole so deep neither him nor Ja Rule will found their way out as a team.
