Born in Queens NY and raised in the electric atmosphere of Miami, Fl, brand
new Latin sensation Lugo has imbued his Elektra/Freeworld debut with both
street smarts and a heart-racing charisma that belies his 15 years. Raised
in a bilingual Dominican home, Lugo blends his love for Latin tinged pop
with a commanding flair for contagious R&B that makes the new album – due to
hit stores in Spring, 2001 – the kind of musical calling card you’re not
likely to forget.
The first single, the playful, buoyant “Boom,” hits radio in November, but
for the young Lugo, song-making has been part of his routine ever since he
was a child. He joined his elementary school chorus when he was only in the
third grade. When those early musical efforts caught the ear of a
supportive music teacher, the young Lugo began to take the craft of singing
and performing more seriously. Talent contests and plays began filling his
schedule, with Lugo eventually being singled out by an industry insider at a
local Miami talent contest. He was soon introduced to world-renowned
writer/producer Dallas Austin (Boyz II Men, Monica, Madonna, Brandy, TLC)
who signed Lugo to a production deal at the end of last year.
What followed was a strict regimen of tutoring, rehearsing, and performing,
measures designed to strengthen his raw talent and prepare him for the
rigors of making a debut album. Tracks on the upcoming disk include the
aforementioned “Boom,” the salsa-fueled “Ven Ven Ven,” and the
pleading/passionate ode to courting ala Miami style, “Ocean Drive”.
Guided by Trans Continental Management, the handsome, ebullient Lugo looks
forward to the coming autumn and New Year as he gears up for what is certain
to be the ride of a lifetime.
