Tracks:
1. Dear Diary Rock, both simple and elegant. Rating: 6/10
2. Hello, Little One Yet more elegance. Dean Wareham’s voice carries the track; the instruments are only a small piece of the puzzle. Rating: 6.5/10
3. The Old Fashioned Way I’m beginning to see a trend. The guitar licks sound like they are coming out the same pedal effect, failing to distinguish each track with its own flavor. They’re pretty and still sound great, but the lack of variety is beginning to wear thin. Rating: 6/10
4. Four Thousand Ways The verses and guitars aren’t as similar and offer the listener something new. The chorus is catchy, but the track isn’t up to par with those previous. Rating: 4/10
5. Seven Steps To Satan Again, the same pedal guitar effect. I hate to complain, but I’ve heard it all before. And with such a cool song title you’d expect a kick ass tune. Big letdown. Rating: 4/10
6. Superfreaky Moments The intro is perfect. Wareham comes in and adds his piece to this wonderfully crafted track. Rating: 6/10
7. Math Wiz Uh. Umm. Rating: 4/10
8. Words Without Wrinkles “Go to the window/ make love to the wind/ concentrate and listen/ this is the end.” I’m not sure, that may or may not be art. You figure it out. If Jim Morrison had sung this chorus, the words would probably be more meaningful. Rating: 5/10
9. The Rustler The strings are great, but the vocal effects don’t do it for me. Still get your toes tapping. I’m a sucker for this track. I’m not sure if I just have bad taste or if this is really good. Rating: 5.5/10
10. U.S Out Of My Pants I’m bored. Rating: 4/10
11. The Slow Song Give me a break. Rating: 3/10
12. Sweet Child O’ Mine Guns ‘n’ Roses? Well, here is a less hyper version of their classic track. Rating: 4/10
This album goes from good to bad to good. It’s all over the place. I wanted to enjoy this more than I did, but after listening time and again, it just didn’t grow on me. Instead, it made me crazy because so many of the tracks sound so similar.
