FILE UNDER: The G.O.A.T. is Todd Smith?
CORPORATE LINE: TODD SMITH is jump started by the undeniable smash “Control Myself,” featuring the multi-platinum and multi-talented superstar, Jennifer Lopez. Produced by Jermaine Dupri, the bass driven track shows yet another dimension of LL’s versatility. The album, mostly recorded in Miami and New York features several tracks from Timabaland, Pharell, Scott Storch and Trackmasters. LL Cool J’s 12th album features 12 stars; including; Mary J. Blige, Mary Mary, Teairra Mari, Freeway and Juelz Santana.
THE GOOD:
“Favorite Flavor” f/Mary J. Blige – The only track on the entire album worth a mention thanks in large part to Mary J. Blige’s hot hook.
THE AVERAGE:
“#1 Fan” – LL is hardly at his best even though the song has a great groove.
“Control Myself” f/Jennifer Lopez – LL has sold out in the past but at least the songs were good.
“Doh Wee” f/Ginuwine – LL spends so little time or energy you wonder if it’s LL’s or Ginuwine’s song.
THE BAD:
“Preserve The Sexy” f/Teairra Mari – This is a joke right? As bad an LL song as there is.
FRANKLY: It’s a sad day in Hip-hop. LL Cool J has revealed his alter-ego Todd Smith and he’s not nearly as interesting as Cool J. Every track has a guest star and LL relies too much on them. LL never offers anything other than an album full of tired rhymes and worn out hooks. It’s hard to admit that LL’s best days are long, long behind. The void is like a black hole. But then again we all know LL hasn’t dropped a great album since 1990’s Mama Said Knock You Out—we just weren’t willing to admit or accept it until now.
