LL Cool J is a living legend of hip-hop, and G.O.A.T. is a cocky realization of his own power. So instead of allowing us to call him the king, he has given himself super props, naming his album Greatest Of All Time.
I might be in the minority in that I think his best days are lost in history. Even his last album was all about giving himself accolades. I mean, it was called Phenomenon. And what do they say about those who brag? Well, enough of that. The thing about LL is that he hasn’t had to dress himself as trendy as others. He bucks the fad and sticks with what has made him Uncle L. LL plays proud papa to his lyrical costars, Snoop Dogg, DMX, Q-Tip, Ja Rule, Xzibit, and Prodigy.
GOAT is by all means home-style cooking. Queens has always been the place where LL rested his lyrical feet, and fifteen years later it hasn’t changed. His style hasn’t gotten soft with age. Is he the Greatest Of All Time? That depends on who you ask. And even though he doesn’t label himself GOAT, you know he feels like he can take the title one on one any day.
