Len brings old school rap back to the masses. You Can’t Stop The Bum Rush is as friendly as rap gets, and it’s about as exciting. “Steal My Sunshine” has radio single potential. “Cryptik Souls Crew” sounds too Sugar Hill Gang. It comes off okay, but the next track, “Man Of The Year”, is fresh as hell. The vox box is a throwback to the days before break dance went corporate and Herbie Hancock was done breaking it down.
“Beautiful Day” finds Biz Markie singing a chorus that will have all the dogs in your neighborhood barking at your front door. Can someone please tell me why anyone thinks that guy can sing? Give me a break. “Cold Chillin’” finds Shar singing a catchy chorus while Kurtis Blow drops by to guest mc, and though there is nothing exceptionally thrilling about this track, it may just keep these guys around for a few years in the clubs.
If you want candy, Len has got it. Just don’t come crying back when you realize every piece tastes the same as the last.
