Our Line: Jonny Lang has been lauded as the blues guitarist and singer years ahead of his time. So why does he now sounds like a guitar playing member of a boy band?
The Good:
“Goodbye Letter” – One of the rare tracks that has a soul.
“Long Time Coming” – Lang goes acoustic, blue grass and honestly it fits him a hell of a lot better than the new attempt at being a pop artist.
The Average:
“Get What You Give” – Almost good. No grand guitar playing and a basic chorus that might, and I emphasize might, have you singing along.
“Give Me Up Again” – Launching into a gritty chorus doesn’t make it sound more rock when the rest sounds like wimpy pop.
“Livin’ For The City” – Lang isn’t Michael McDonald but boy does he try hard.
“If I Try” – Here Lang sounds like Paul Stanley as he does his best to muster up some rock after falling asleep for the first six songs.
The Ugly:
“Red Light” – Lang going the way of the boy band? This is timid with barely any electric guitar.
“Touch” – A drum machine? Lang is lost in pop land.
“The One I Got” – Again Lang swoops in with a high falsetto that makes you wonder when Justin Timberlake might bust out along with his boy band gang.
Frankly: Jonny Lang has gone from marvel to mystery. Lang opts for drum machines instead of using his God given talent on guitar. It makes you wonder if Lang is a boy band wanna-be or just a misguided artist. He might be a great guitar player, but as a singer songwriter Lang has a long way to go.
