FILE UNDER: Ex-American Idol contestant does pop-R&B-hip-hop.
CORPORATE LINE: With her stunning voice and illuminating beauty, songstress LaToya London captivated audiences across the country when she delivered show-stopping performances week-after-week on the 2004 season of the hit TV show American Idol. Now, for her millions of loyal fans, the long wait for the singer’s debut CD is finally over. Love & Life is a collection of 14 songs that touches the worlds of pop, urban, and hip-hop.
THE GREAT:
Absolutely nothing.
THE AVERAGE:
“Learn To Breathe” – London has a voice that compares well to Toni Braxton. If London had the hit songs that Braxton was given during her heyday Latoya would be a monster success.
“How I Love The Rain” – The best song on the record—but after almost a dozen ballads it doesn’t stand out
“Scandalous” – London has a strong voice but not a strong song.
“Every Part of Me” – Again, London shows she has a solid voice. The hook is lacking and it makes this song slip by without notice.
“Waiting For You” – This is one of those songs that you want to love. Truly it sounds like it should be great and London gives it her best but it never reaches those levels.
THE BAD:
“Appreciate” – London sings out of her range and it sounds painful.
FRANKLY: All the voice in the world doesn’t make for a great album. Latoya London has a powerful voice minus great songs. As stated before, were Latoya given Toni Braxton songs she’d have plenty of hits. Unfortunately, London just has to sing some real stinkers.
